How to Measure for Blinds

Measuring blinds is quite simple, but you must follow some instructions carefully to get it right the first time. The steps may vary depending on the type of blinds you want and whether you want to mount them inside or outside the window recess.

For clarity, you can mount your blinds on the wall or window frame (face mounting) or the ceiling or window lintel (recess mounting).

1. For Venetian Blinds / Basswood / Plaswood Blinds / Roller Blinds

Recess Mount (To Fit In The Recess of the window)

  • Depth: Check that the depth of the window is at least 60mm for an inside mount.
  • Width: Measure the inside width from left to right in 3 places (top, centre and bottom of the window). Use the narrowest measurement and deduct 10mm for clearance.
  • Height: Measure the inside height from the top of the window casing to the top of the sill in three places. Use the shortest measurement and deduct 10mm for clearance.
Note: You need to ensure that you take the 10mm deduction for clearance. Sabers does NOT make the deduction for you.

Face Fix Mount (To fit on the outside of the window)

  • Head Rail: Determine the blind rail position above the window.
  • Width: Measure the width, including the coverage you would like on each side of the window. We recommend an overlap of at least 100mm for light control and privacy.
  • Height: Measure the height to be covered from the top of the blind rail position to the top of the sill or lower if overlap is desired for additional light control and privacy. Please note that a protruding sill may affect the movement of the Venetian blind.
Note: Sabers takes NO deductions on outside-mount installations.
